Let's Start Doing Lesson Planning

Thanks to non-profit organizations such as WSPA, the United States Humane Society, and NAHEE, the PAWS Education Committee has collected enough education materials to start lesson planning. To date, we have collected:

• Education videos that discuss caring for an animal, responsibility, and how to approach a dog;
• Posters on 100 Ways to be Kind to Animals, animal abuse, and how littering affects our animals and our environment;
• Coloring books;
• Teacher's guides to teaching responsibility and compassion;
• Give aways, such as: stickers, magnets, calendars, and book marks; and
• Children's books.

Ideally, we would like lesson plans that last no longer than 15-20 minutes. So, with the amount of materials that we have, lesson planning shouldn't be difficult.

PAWS Annual General Meeting

Everyone is invited to attend the PAWS Annual General Membership meeting. This is your chance to hear what has been accomplished during the past year and what we hope to accomplish in 2007. We value everyone’s comments and suggestions.

This year Representative Cinta Kaipat will be our guest speaker. Representative Kaipat, who is Chairperson of the Beautify CNMI Campaign, will speak on the ways that PAWS and all pet owners can help in that campaign.

The meeting is Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. in Giovanni’s at the Hyatt Hotel. Lunch is $15.00 per person and includes an antipasto buffet with pasta dishes, bread, dessert and iced tea to drink.

New or renewal memberships will be available at this time with a suggested annual membership donation of $30.00.We hope to see all interested people there!

PAWS - Pet Assistance and Welfare Services

The PAWS Education Committee of Saipan would like to invite everyone to participate in our blog sessions.

To give you some idea of who and what we are - here is the scoop. PAWS is Saipan's only non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare. The organization was formed in 1993, and has steadily grown over the last 14 years. Today, we are a member of the international organization WSPA, the World Society for the Protection of Animals, and supported by organizations such as the United States Humane Society.

Our programs include, but are not limited to: (1) the PAWS Education Committee; (2) passing anti-cruelty legislation; (3) offering assistance to animals and families in need of veterinary services; (4) finding homes for the homeless; and (5) obtaining affordable veterinary care for low-income families.

Most recently our efforts were recognized by Beautify CNMI, a partner of PAWS and the island's most motivated and inspirational coalition. Beautify CNMI! has recently added a committee designated solely to animal welfare. Hopefully, through our combined efforts, PAWS, Beautify CNMI!, and the Saipan community can improve the lives of humans and animals alike.
